Chapter Background

The California Wind Dancers Women on Wheels® (formerly the Bay Area Chapter) was formed in 1984 and draws members from the San Francisco bay area of California. Although we're headquartered in San Jose, 60 members and advertisers receive our newsletter from all parts of northern and central California. We have one meeting and sponsor at least one ride each month.

The Wind Dancers Chapter is an AMA sanctioned club. We are active in our local AMA district, which is AMA District 36 Road Rider Division. We have two delegates that attend the bimonthly meetings of District 36. In addition, we attend and support activities hosted by the other member clubs of District 36.

Types of Rides

We have many types of rides to suit our members' tastes.

End-of-Month Putt is held on the last Saturday of every month. Route is by consensus and we're happy to accommodate novices on this ride.

Two Sisters Memorial Enduro, where members follow a map and find pre-set checkpoints. The rider finding all the checkpoints and most closely matching the allotted time wins.

Pacific Rally is usually held in September in a location which allows women riders from the West Coast can gather to network and make new friends.

We support all riders; the Rally is open to women and women-escorted men, whether WOW® members or not. Rides & Events

Chapter rides & events can take us anywhere in the general area, from San Luis Obispo to Calistoga to Reno, or anywhere in between.

The Wind Dancers Chapter plans monthly rides that are led by a designated leader. The monthly rides take us anywhere in the general area. In past years we have visited Daffodil Hill, historic Old Towne Sacramento, Calistoga, and many other interesting places in California. Each ride is planned in advance by the ride leader, with details being published in the Wind Chimes for meeting location and ride length.

We also try to support less experienced riders by having some rides that are shorter and less challenging.

Who We Are

Our membership is a cross-section of the motorcycling community. The experience level ranges from brand new to a couple of decades.

At any given ride you will find bikes of all types, including Japanese, European, and American cruisers, tourers and sport-tourers.

Most members have taken motorcycle safety training and we are proud that several members are CMSP and MSF-certified safety instructors.

It is our diversity that keeps us interesting. So come to a meeting or a ride and check us out!

Chapter Bylaws

Our chapter bylaws were revised at the end of 2001.
